The funny thing about a roomful of people...
I spent about an 90 minutes at this networking event, I shook hands with probably 63 people, collected 47 business cards... and although for marketing and sales purposes that's pretty good, the most memorable moment was having one meaningful conversation with 1 man.
As I was outside enjoying the sweltering heat, I started off eavesdropping in on his conversation. He commented on the state of our Gross National Product.
He ended up sitting down at my table. We started off with polite banter: the pros and cons of joining certain chambers and networking groups. Blah blah blah. But then we talked about our families. Where we migrated from. How different the times are now. We talked about our mixed children and the struggles they had (have) growing up in Placer County. We talked about dirt roads, gang violence, and tattoos.
It was one of the greatest conversations I've ever had with a random stranger. And I loved it. Thank you, random stranger. Thank you for validating my faith in humanity.
