The Underground Economy

Are you affected by the underground economy? This handout was used at the Underground Economy Conference on April 7th of 2016. Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones states that “Employers who commit workers’ compensation insurance fraud cheat the system, leaving their employees at risk and their clients vulnerable to financial disaster.”

Fraud is not a victimless crime. Insured workers, families of injured workers, consumers, and businesses who are left in the dust due to unfair competition are all victims when it comes to fraud.

Allied agencies such as the Employment Development Department, Department of Insurance Fraud Division and the Sacramento District Attorney's Office collaborate together in joint investigations.
